🚀 Launching Your First Email Campaign
This guide will walk you through the step-by-step process of creating and sending your first personalized email campaign using Mail Merge.
1. Prepare Your Spreadsheet
Before launching the add-on, ensure your Google Sheet is set up correctly:
- Header Row: The first row must contain headers (e.g.,
First Name,Email,Order ID). - Email Column: At least one column must contain valid email addresses.
2. Create the Campaign
- Open your Google Sheet and go to Extensions > Docu Merge > Mail Merge.
- Once Launched, click the Create Campaign button.
- Campaign Name: Give your campaign a user-friendly name (e.g., "Monthly Newsletter Dec 2025").
- Select Sheet: By default, the active Google Sheet tab is selected. Use the dropdown if you need to pull data from a different tab.
- Click Continue.
3. Configure Campaign Details
In the Campaigns Tab, you will define how your email looks and who it comes from.
👤 Sender & Recipient Info
- Sender Name: Enter the name you want recipients to see in their inbox (e.g., "Sales Team").
- Recipient Email Column: Select the column that contains the email addresses. The dropdown automatically filters and displays only columns containing email data.
✉️ Email Content
- Subject Line: Type an engaging subject. You can use
{{Column Name}}(e.g.,Hello {{First Name}}!) to personalize it. - Visual Editor: Use the editor to draft your message.
- Dynamic Expressions: Click the Insert Dynamic Expression button at the top of the editor to quickly add placeholders from your sheet.
4. Save and Run
- Once you are happy with the setup, click Save Campaign.
- You will be redirected to the Campaign List. Find your new campaign and click the Run button.
5. Fetch Configuration & Test Run
Before sending to your entire list, it is best practice to run a test.
- Fetch Run Config: In the Fetch Run Config window, follow the instructions and click the Fetch Run Config button. This pulls the latest data from your sheet.
- Enable Test Mode: Select the Run In Test Mode checkbox.
- Note: In Test Mode, the email is sent only to YOU, the subject is prefixed with
[Test Mode], and the Google Sheet status column is NOT updated.

- Select Row: Enter
2as the row number to use the data from your first recipient for the test. - Launch: Click Run Campaign.

You have successfully sent your first email using Mail Merge. Check your inbox to see how the personalized email looks. If everything looks perfect, you can return to the Run window, uncheck Test Mode, and send the campaign to your full list!
