How to Install Docu Merge and Launch Mail Merge

Docu Merge is a powerful document automation and email notification tool. The Mail Merge feature is a core component of the Docu Merge suite, allowing you to send personalized mass email campaigns directly from your spreadsheet data.

📥 How to Install Docu Merge

To leverage Mail Merge and other document generation capabilities, you must first install the add-on for your Google Workspace or personal Gmail account.

  1. Visit the Marketplace: Go to the Docu Merge Listing on the Google Workspace Marketplace.
  2. Start Installation: Click the Install button.
  3. Confirm: When the "Get ready to install" popup appears, click Continue.
  4. Select Account: Choose the specific Google account where you want to use the add-on.
  5. Grant Permissions: Review the required permissions (needed to send emails and read sheet data) and click Allow.

Congratulations! Docu Merge is now linked to your Google account.

🚀 How to Launch Mail Merge

Once installed, the Mail Merge feature is accessed through the Google Sheets interface.

  1. Open Google Sheets: Create a new Google Sheet or open an existing one.
  2. Access Extensions: In the top menu bar, click on Extensions (formerly "Add-ons").
  3. Find Docu Merge: Hover over Docu Merge to see the feature menu.
  4. Launch Mail Merge: Click on Mail Merge from the sub-menu:

Extensions > Docu Merge > Mail Merge

🛠 Troubleshooting: "I can't see the Mail Merge menu"

If you have installed the add-on but the Mail Merge option is missing or only shows a "Help" button, follow these steps:

1. Refresh Your Browser

Google Sheets often needs a fresh reload to register newly installed scripts. Press F5 or the refresh icon and wait for the "Working..." status to disappear before checking the Extensions menu again.

2. Check for Multiple Google Accounts

A known Google issue prevents add-ons from loading if you are logged into multiple Google Accounts in the same browser session.

  • The Fix: Log out of all accounts and log back into only the one used to install Docu Merge, or open your spreadsheet in an Incognito/Private window.

3. Authorization is Required

Sometimes the script needs a manual "kickstart" to trigger the authorization prompt.

  • The Fix: Go to Extensions > Add-ons > Manage Add-ons. Find Docu Merge, click the three dots â‹®, and ensure "Use in this document" is checked.

4. Admin Domain Restrictions (Workspace Users)

If you are using a company or school account, your administrator may have disabled third-party add-ons.

  • The Fix: Contact your IT department to ensure the Docu Merge add-on is whitelisted for your domain.
